WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following readout after he met with Denis McDonough, President-elect Biden’s nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs:

“I had a good conversation with Mr. McDonough about the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to serving those who served us – our nation’s veterans. We discussed veterans’ healthcare and the need for VA to rebuild trust with veterans and their families, with the Veteran Service Organizations that advocate for our veterans, and the VA employees who serve them. Our discussion focused on ensuring VA has the resources it needs to ensure access to quality healthcare and services to veterans that they have earned. During our conversation, I urged Denis to be more proactive regarding toxic exposure issues and work on behalf of veterans to reduce VA overpayment and veterans’ debt.

“I am confident that Denis McDonough understands the value of listening to key stakeholders to ensure VA implements policies that work best for our veterans and their families. After challenging years at the Department of Veterans Affairs under the Trump Administration, it is clear we need new leadership at VA.  I look forward to working with him and urge the Senate to move quickly with his confirmation.”
