BRUNSWICK, OHToday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined business owners and leaders at the Brunswick City Council chambers to discuss the job-creating, Buy America protections Brown secured in the bipartisan infrastructure plan, and potential workforce and economic development opportunities for Ohio businesses in the future.

“With the historic investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan and our Buy America protections, we have an opportunity to use Ohio-made products in projects across our state and around the country,” said Brown. The investments we are making will support Ohio companies – not foreign competitors - and that means job creation up and down the supply chain.”

Brown first introduced his bipartisan Build America Buy America legislation in 2017 and successfully fought to include it in the bipartisan infrastructure plan. The Buy America protections will ensure taxpayer dollars are used to buy and include American-made products for all federally funded infrastructure projects. The legislation will close loopholes and secure major investment in products made by American workers.

“Economic activity in Medina County has been booming since the end of 2020. This year so far, county levels of capital investment in building expansions and new machinery have outweighed all the capital investment made by companies in 2021,” said Bethany Dentler, the Executive Director of the Medina County Economic Development Corporation, one of the groups that participated in Friday’s roundtable. “To help businesses deal with the tight labor market challenges they have been facing, Medina County Economic Development Corporation has worked with local officials on creative workforce solutions, including the Ways to Work program which offers customized transportation solutions to workers.”
