WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), has awarded a $300,000 grant to the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) through the Support for Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program. These funds will help Cuyahoga County address verification of backlogged offenders, track and apprehend offenders who have warrants, and digitize files of those offenders for information sharing.

“We have an obligation to survivors and our communities to help them recover from abuse and other criminal activity. These funds are good news for Cuyahoga County and will help law enforcement address backlogs and apprehend offenders,” said Brown. “I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that Congress is doing all we can to support survivors.”

The funding comes as part of the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act, named in memory of Adam Walsh who was a young boy abducted and murdered in Florida. The law is designed to protect children from sexual exploitation, child abuse and child pornography. Grant funding is distributed to states to allow law enforcement to upgrade and replace equipment used to prevent crimes against children and investigate child abusers.
