CLEVELAND, OH — Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement after reports that President Trump is once again backing down on his promise to push for meaningful legislation to address gun violence after giving in to pressure from the gun lobby.

“When President Trump came to Dayton to visit with shooting victims and first responders, he looked me in the eye and promised me he’d take meaningful action to address gun violence. Instead, President Trump and Republican lawmakers once again betrayed the interests of the American people and gave in to pressure from the gun lobby. When the people of Dayton chanted ‘do something,’ they meant meaningful action to address gun violence, not another cave to special interests.”
