WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met this week with representatives and supporters of  the Cleveland-based InterReligious Task Force on Central America (IRTF), including Columbus resident Ellen Huffman. They, along with other IRTF members, attended Brown’s weekly coffee with constituents during their visit to Washington, D.C.

“It’s important for organizations like the IRTF to bring human rights abuses to light,” Brown said. “It’s an honor to meet with such passionate advocates for justice and equality.”

For over thirty years, the IRTF has promoted human rights and economic justice in Central America through education initiatives and legislative advocacy, including opposition to free trade policies that have exploited workers in Central America. Brown has been a vocal advocate of “fair trade” that benefits workers both domestically and abroad.
