WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met with representatives of the Cleveland-based InterReligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia (IRTF), including Cleveland resident and German-native Sophia Fruechtenicht. The group met with Brown at his weekly coffee with constituents in Washington, D.C.

“It’s an honor to meet with such a passionate advocate for justice and equality like Sophia,” said Brown. “It’s important for organizations like the IRTF to bring human rights abuses to light.”

For more than 30 years, the IRTF has promoted human rights and economic justice in Central America through education initiatives and legislative advocacy, including opposition to free trade policies that have exploited workers in Central America. Brown has been a vocal advocate of “fair trade” that benefits workers both domestically and abroad.
