Brown Opposes Decision to Take Protections Away from Ohio Students

Senator: We Must Continue Efforts to Ensure All Ohio Children Feel Safe at School

CLEVELAND, OH – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) opposes the Trump Administration’s move this week to roll back federal guidelines designed to protect transgender students from discrimination in public schools.

"Schools must be places where all children feel safe and welcome in order to learn,” Brown said. “Many schools across Ohio have already taken important steps to protect transgender students, and I will continue to support their efforts. While rolling back these guidelines sends a harmful message, we must remember that both Title IX and the Constitution give all students the right to equal treatment in our schools, and we will continue using them to protect transgender students from bullying and discrimination.”
