WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) introduced a Senate Resolution recognizing the global significance and economic impact of Cincinnati hosting the World Choir Games from July 4-14, 2012.

“Cincinnati’s vibrant arts community will be on a world stage this summer during the World Choir games,” Brown said. “From Cincinnati’s Music Hall to Union Terminal to the Riverfront, visitors from around the world will realize that the Queen City isn’t just a gateway to America’s west – Cincinnati is an open-door to the best of American culture, hospitality, and spirit.”

“The World Choir Games made an excellent decision in selecting Cincinnati as the first American city to host the games,” said Portman. “Cincinnati has long played an important economic role on the global stage, serving home to more than 400 foreign-owned firms employing over 40,000 people in the region. The games will give a much needed boost to local businesses as visitors enjoy the many local sights and sounds Cincinnati has to offer.”

The World Choir Games, the “Olympics of choral music,” aims to increase global cultural understanding through singing in peaceful competition. The event is expected to bring over 200,000 visitors from around the world to Cincinnati and generate an estimated $73.5 million for the local economy.
