Brown Previews Fourth Annual Women's Leadership Summit

Women’s Leadership Summit to Take Place Oct. 6th at Xavier University Sen. Kamala Harris to Give Keynote Address

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) hosted a news conference call today as he is set to host the fourth annual “Women’s Leadership Summit: Together We Rise” at Xavier University on Saturday, Oct. 6th. Brown will join several southwest Ohio business and community partners at the one-day program which will shine a light on the good work women are doing in southwest Ohio to uplift their communities.

“This conference will help connect women who want to make a difference with opportunities to get involved, and allow them to make connections with other women who care about these issues,” said Brown.

Participants at this year’s summit will have the opportunity to hear from a variety of civic and business leaders, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), the keynote speaker. The summit will also feature two panel discussions and an advocacy workshop.

Every year, Brown hosts a women’s leadership summit in Ohio. In 2015, Brown hosted the inaugural summit “The Power of You” in Cincinnati. Last year, Brown hosted the summit “Tell Your Story” in Columbus.

Brown was joined on today’s call by Hannah Jacobs from Crawford County, who attended last year’s conference with her mother and sister, and is set to attend this year’s conference, as well.

“Since last year’s summit, I’ve consistently referenced what I learned during my experience. Locally, I’ve had the privilege of working with groups of students, community leaders, and business owners to develop their own six-word stories, which is an exercise I learned during last year’s leadership summit. As a woman, as a mother of young children, and as a young professional in economic development in a rural county that is still recovering from and actively combating population decline and Ohio’s opioid crisis, I can say with confidence that opportunities like the women’s leadership summit matter,” said Jacobs.

Regional partners for this year’s summit include: The Kroger Foundation, The Procter & Gamble Company, The Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund, Fifth Third Bank, UFCW Local 75, Trustee, Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, AK Steel Corporation, The Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Worldpay, CVG Airport, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Women of Cincy, Convergys, University of Dayton, Xavier University, Cincinnati State Technical & Community College, Sinclair Community College, Mount Saint Joseph University, Communications Workers of America District 4, Collective Spaces Design Works, and Design to Market Home Staging.
