WASHINGTON D.C. –United States Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) spoke about the importance of green energy manufacturing as part of an ongoing sustainable energy policy at an event hosted by the Brookings Institution.

“We must make investing in green energy a national priority. By establishing a green energy supply line, we can create new industry and new, good-paying jobs.

“Ohio is in a unique position to lead this country in green energy research and manufacturing. We have the technology and the skilled workforce to transform our energy sources. Forward- thinking partnerships like the one among Brookings Institution, Ohio State University, and Batelle Memorial Institute continue to bring us closer to new energy solutions.”

Brown was joined by energy, policy, and research experts, including E. Gordon Gee, President of Ohio State University, and Jeffrey Wadsworth, President and CEO of Batelle Memorial Institute. James Duderstadt, President Emeritus of the University of Michigan and Michael M. Crow, President of Arizona State University also spoke at the event.

Brown is working to have Ohio lead the fight for energy independence. Last week, he addressed the Blue Green Alliance “Good Jobs Green Jobs” National Conference and described how green energy manufacturing and innovation can meet this country’s demand for new sources of energy.

Brown has been pushing for investment in manufacturing components for renewable energy production like biomass, geothermal, solar and wind energy. He has held roundtables in communities in Seneca and Scioto Counties whose flagging industrial bases would be boosted by green energy manufacturing.

A member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Brown was part of a group of Senators who recently introduced legislation to promote biogas production through tax credit incentives. Earlier this year, Brown fought to introduce the Green Energy Production Act of 2009. The legislation would provide grants to encourage sustainable energy manufacturing technologies.
