WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Commerce Department’s report on the semiconductor supply chain, and its conclusion that the U.S. House of Representatives needs to pass the United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA). The report found that the demand for semiconductors is skyrocketing, existing factories are being fully used, and additional factories – like the recently announced $20 billion Intel semiconductor factory in New Albany, Ohio – must be built to stabilize the fragile production supply chain.

“We know how to speed up supply chains, lower prices, and better compete with China: make more things in America. This new report makes clear just how essential domestic semiconductor manufacturing is to our economy. We need to make more semiconductors in America, and we can make that happen by passing the United States Innovation and Competition Act,” said Brown. “This bill will help us reshore good-paying manufacturing jobs to places like New Albany, Ohio, bringing down the price of cars and others products. I urge my colleagues in the House of Representatives to join the Senate in passing this bill, to support investments like Intel is making, and ensure more technology is stamped “Made in the U.S.A.”
