WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – released the following statement on the new settlement agreement between the Trump administration and Chinese telecom giant ZTE. ZTE was penalized for persistently violating US sanctions against Iran and North Korea and lying about it on multiple occasions. The Senate Banking Committee recently voted overwhelmingly to block such a deal, and the House of Representatives has voted to impose new restrictions related to ZTE.

“We cannot allow a Chinese company to violate U.S. laws time and again, lie about it repeatedly, and get away with it,” Brown said. “By turning a blind eye to ZTE’s blatant violations, the Administration is putting Chinese jobs ahead of American jobs, and Chinese interests over America’s national security.”
