WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today released a statement following the news that Amazon will be building fulfillment centers in Rossford and Akron, OH. The two facilities are expected to create an estimated 2,500 full-time jobs between the two facilities. Those full-time positions would qualify for Amazon’s new $15 an hour wage.
“I’m glad Amazon chose Rossford and Akron, but not surprised. Ohioans are the best at what they do. I’m pleased the company has committed to paying starting wages of $15 an hour and providing benefits,” said Brown. “But Amazon is a trillion dollar company, and they have a responsibility to not only make sure these investments go to Ohioans and hiring locally, but also go above and beyond to make sure these jobs provide a pathway to the middle class for their Rossford and Akron employees.”
