Following the passing of former NAACP Chairman and civil rights leader Julian Bond, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following statement:

"Julian Bond was on the forefront of the fight for voting rights but worked on the local and national level to continue to affect change.  Since walking across the Ohio River with him as part of the Overground Railroad trek in 1983 to working with him when he chaired the NAACP, I've always been impressed by his steady leadership and concern for others. ‎America has lost a great civil rights leader and a great man."
