U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown released the following statement regarding the National Labor Relations Board’s proposal of modernized election rules, which will streamline regulatory process for union elections:

“Any economic recovery will be judged by what it does for the middle class. A critical part of a strong middle class is ensuring workers are free to effectively participate in election proceedings which impact their livelihood. New rules proposed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) modernize an election system that has often left workers confused, frustrated, or unrepresented. The important changes in the proposed rule would afford workers with an opportunity many wealthy, powerful people in this country often take for granted-the opportunity to voice their opinions and to negotiate the terms of their employment. Fair and just representation is something that all Americans deserve, and the NLRB’s rule strives to protect this right for all workers. Rather than providing additional benefits to the wealthiest Americans, this rule strives to protect the rights of hardworking, middle class Americans. I applaud the NLRB’s effort, and hope that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle will join me in supporting the proposed rule.”
