WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement today on the passing of Judge Jean Murrell Capers. Judge Capers was the first African American woman elected to Cleveland City Council and later served as Cleveland Municipal Court judge.
“Cleveland lost a hero today with the passing of Judge Jean Murrell Capers. Judge Capers’ legacy will live on not only in the history books, but in all the lives made better by her fierce advocacy for the poor and powerful commitment to justice,” Brown said. “Connie and I send our deepest condolences to all those touched by the loss of Judge Capers.”
