WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following statement on tonight’s vote by House Republicans to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by nearly $40 billion.
“This vote is shameful and undercuts our country’s basic values. Almost 9 out of every 10 dollars spent go to families with children, the elderly or disabled members. People on SNAP want to work – and do work –but right now there are three unemployed workers for every job opening. It’s time that we stop these political games with the most vulnerable Americans and instead focus on creating living-wage jobs.”
