WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), a member of the U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, honored one of the nation’s oldest veterans service organizations today by observing Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day. Brown issued the following statement:

“On today’s 110th anniversary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, we recognize the brave men and women of the VFW and this exceptional organization that supports them. Today and every day, we honor the mission and outstanding legacy of the VFW and every one of its two million members whose courage and sacrifice protect our nation’s freedoms.”

On September 29, 1899, veterans in Columbus, Ohio organized to form one of the first veterans’ organizations in the country. Today, the VFW hosts more than 7,900 posts in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Latin America, the Pacific Areas, and Europe.
