CLEVELAND, OH – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) sent a letter to the president of Stericycle Inc., a company that disposes of medical waste, urging the company to come back to the bargaining table and negotiate with its union employees.

More than 75 employees, members of Teamsters Local 20 and Local 377, at Stericycle facilities in Warren and Toledo went on strike last week for fair pay and safe working conditions.

The coronavirus pandemic has reminded us of the essential workers we all rely on to keep our economy going and our communities safe. The members of Teamsters Local 20 and Local 377 stepped up throughout the pandemic. They risked their own health and safety to provide critical services to their communities,” said Brown. “Both sides in these negotiations care about the company and the work you do. With this shared commitment in mind, I urge you to resolve your differences and find a path forward.”

Brown pointed out that the union drivers, maintenance workers, disposal plant operators and others helped make 2020 one of the most profitable years ever for Stericycle, and those workers deserve a fair agreement that honors the dignity of work.
