WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and former Republican Governor of Ohio, Bob Taft (R-OH), hosted a news conference call to discuss the importance of voting in this election. Both Brown and Taft have served as Secretaries of State in Ohio, and are urging Ohioans to make their voices heard this Election Day.

“This is the most important election of our lifetime,” said Brown. “So grab a friend and get involved. There’s so much at stake, and we need everyone to do their part, and everyone to participate. Your vote is your voice in our democracy, and this is your chance to make your voice heard.”

“As former Ohio chief elections officer I encourage every Ohioan to cast their vote this year. You have multiple options for voting – in person on Election Day, by mail, and in person early voting, which is underway across the state, now including weekend hours. There’s a lot at stake this year – not just the race for President, but down the ballot as well. We’re still battling the pandemic, but we can keep our democracy strong – by casting our vote and making our voice heard,” said former Republican Governor of Ohio, Bob Taft.

Brown and Taft are first and foremost encouraging Ohioans to make their voices heard and vote. Ohioans can vote early or on Election Day, Nov. 3. In-person early voting is going on now through Election Day.

The two former Ohio Secretaries of State are also encouraging those wishing to cast their vote via absentee ballot to request their ballot now. The deadline for the Board of Elections to receive absentee ballot requests is at noon, three days before the election. With the October 31st deadline rapidly approaching, it’s important Ohioans go to www.vote.org/ohio to complete the fast and easy process now.

Brown and Taft also released their new video PSA on Youtube and Twitter, which encourages young, healthy Ohioans to step up and become poll workers in order to help America vote. There is a shortage of volunteers this year due to the pandemic, and Ohioans who sign up would be helping their communities and ensuring everyone’s voice is heard this November.
