CLEVELAND, OH – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) will join the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) on Friday to announce new federal resources for an initiative that will help boost Ohio’s aerospace exports by an expected $90 million and help create jobs in Ohio. The first-of-its-kind project, funded in part by federal resources and in part by OAI, will help connect Ohio’s aerospace manufacturing companies with international aerospace manufacturers seeking components and services made in the United States.
Ohio-based manufacturing companies will benefit from this partnership by gaining access to training sessions, supplier summits and workshops, and trade missions. Brown will also be joined by Michael Heil and Donald Majcher, both of OAI, who will discuss how these federal resources will help increase the competitiveness of Ohio’s aerospace industry internationally.
Brown, a member of the President’s Export Council, is working to advance Ohio’s already rapidly-growing aerospace industry. Currently, there are more than 1,200 companies that support more than 120,000 jobs in Ohio’s aerospace industry. Earlier this year, Brown joined Airbus Americas Chairman Allan McArtor and Ohio manufacturing and aerospace leaders to announce the establishment of a new aerospace research and development consortium. The five-year agreement is aimed at strengthening Ohio’s aerospace industry and boosting economic development throughout the state. Brown first laid the groundwork for this agreement by hosting a number of Airbus Ohio Supplier conference in Ohio—the first of which was held at OAI in December 2009.
