WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded $399,858 to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, through the Support for Adam Walsh Act Implementation Grant Program. These funds will help upgrade and replace live scan systems, software and related technology and equipment in 88 county sheriffs' offices, which will allow for electronic submission of fingerprint cards.

“Safe communities depend on well-equipped law enforcement officers,” Brown said. “These funds will allow sheriffs’ offices across Ohio to continue keeping our streets safe. This grant is a critical investment to secure new equipment and resources for the men and women who devote their lives to protecting Ohioans.”

The funding comes as part of the Adam Walsh Protection and Safety Act, named in memory of Adam Walsh who was a young boy abducted and murdered in Florida. The law is designed to protect children from sexual exploitation, child abuse and child pornography. Grant funding is distributed to states to allow law enforcement to upgrade and replace equipment used to prevent crimes against children and investigate child abusers.
