MASSILLON, OH – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) visited Shearer’s Snack Foods this morning to highlight efforts to boost manufacturing innovation in Ohio. Following a meeting with company leaders, he toured the factory – which employs more than 500 people – and met with workers. Founded in Canton in 1974, Shearer's currently employs 1,300 people in Ohio. Shearer’s Corporate Headquarters is also located in Massillon.

“Manufacturing and factories like Shearer’s are cornerstones of our economy,” Brown said. “Not only do manufacturing jobs have the strongest multiplier effect of any industry, we see innovation happening on the floors of factories here and across Ohio – helping to move our economy forward. That’s why I’m working every day to ensure that ideas developed in the U.S. will also be made in the U.S.”

Brown is working to boost manufacturing innovation around Ohio and support business expansion. In December 2014, President Obama signed Brown’s bipartisan legislation to create the first-ever national network of manufacturing hubs. The Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI) would establish a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) and create thousands of high-paying, high-tech manufacturing jobs while enhancing the United States’ role as the world’s leader in advanced manufacturing.
