YOUNGSTOWN, OH — In Case You Missed It: A Youngstown Business Journal article highlighted U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) letter to Angela Strand, the newly appointed Executive Chairwoman of the Lordstown Motor Company (LMC), asking the company to develop and share a detailed plan for the company’s reform, and to work with area labor unions.

“The senator also expressed concerns over an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice into Lordstown Motors’ business,” wrote Dan O’Brien for The Business Journal.

Brown reiterated the desire for LMC to succeed and become a good employer and contributor to the Mahoning Valley, but said recent investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Department of Justice are concerning. Brown asked LMC to do more to prove it will deliver on promises of job creation and manufacturing innovation.

Brown also urged LMC to form a partnership with organized labor, pointing out that Ohio workers represented by the United Autoworkers have historic expertise in auto manufacturing. Such a relationship would allow the company to gain the trust of the community, lead to less employee turnover, and generate higher rates of productivity.

LORDSTOWN, Ohio – The executive chairwoman of Lordstown Motors Corp. said Tuesday that the startup automaker is committed to transforming the Mahoning Valley into an “electric vehicle epicenter.”

In a response to a letter written earlier that day by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Angela Strand said that the company is “proceeding with business as normal as we retool our factory, train our team members and prepare for limited production at the end of September.”

Brown’s office on Tuesday released a letter dated July 13 from the senator addressed to Strand urging Lordstown Motors to develop and share its plan to restructure the company and strike a partnership with the United Auto Workers union.
