WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that President Obama has accepted his recommendation and intends to nominate Carter Stewart for the U.S. Attorney position of the Southern District of Ohio.

“Carter Stewart has demonstrated talent and commitment as a top litigator and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney,” Brown said. “I applaud President Obama for choosing a leader whose record of achievement in central and southern Ohio has well prepared him for future success. I look forward to his confirmation by the Senate.”

In March, after consulting with Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH), Brown recommended the appointment of Stewart to the president. “Carter Stewart will bring the right combination of experience, commitment, and talent to the job of U.S. Attorney,” said Brown. “His prior service as an Assistant U.S. Attorney combined with his extensive litigation experience has given him the perspective and skills necessary to excel as U.S. Attorney.” More information can be found here

Stewart is currently an associate with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease in Columbus, where his practice focuses on commercial litigation, criminal defense, antitrust, and education law.  Prior to joining Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, Stewart was an associate with Bingham McCutchen in San Francisco.  He has also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, adjunct law professor at Lincoln Law School of San Jose, and law clerk for U.S. District Court judges Raymond Finch and Robert Carter. Stewart earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he served as Executive Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review.

President Obama also accepted Brown’s recommendation of Steve Dettelbach for U.S. Attorney of the Northern District of Ohio. More information can be found here.
