Secretary Perry Accepts Brown’s Invitation to Visit Piketon

Senator has Worked to Protect the 1,800 Jobs at Site

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that Energy Secretary Rick Perry has accept his invitation with U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) to visit the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon. Brown also asked that Perry visit Piketon during their meeting ahead of Perry’s confirmation.

“This visit will be an opportunity for Secretary Perry and the Administration to see the important work happening in Piketon firsthand,” said Brown. “Once Secretary Perry sees these Ohio workers in action, I have no doubt he’ll agree that we should increase investment at the site. I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Perry, Senator Portman and the community to protect these jobs.”

In March, Brown and Portman sent Secretary Perry a letter inviting him to tour the plant. Just this week, Brown announced that he helped secure $351 million to maintain jobs and cleanup at the Plant.
