WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $45,000  has been awarded to the Sandusky Fire Department by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect Ohioans every day,” said Brown.  “These funds ensure that Ohio firefighters have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

These funds are designed to help fire-responder organizations obtain emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.

AFG grants target fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with hospitals and enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and first-responder personnel.  The AFG will award approximately $390 million in competitive grants to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations during FY 2010.
