WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $472,688 was awarded to Burke Lakefront Airport to rehabilitate and maintain the structural integrity of the airport apron. The U.S. Department of Transportation funds were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“As one of Cleveland’s premier business airports, the runway at Burke Lakefront Airport is vital to keeping commerce alive in the region,” Brown said. “This funding will ensure that flights departing from and arriving to Cleveland do so on a safe runway and will maintain accessibility to Cleveland’s businesses.”

Burke Lakefront Airport, which is operated by the city of Cleveland’s Department of Port Control, primarily serves privately-owned and charter aircraft used for business purposes—along with flight training, leisure flying, and military operations among others. It is the official reliever airport for Cleveland Hopkins International.
