WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Berlin Township Volunteer Fire Department was awarded new federal resources to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. The funds were awarded through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety Grants (FP&S) grant program.

“The best way to fight fire-related deaths and injuries is to prevent fires,” Brown said. “These resources will enable the Berlin Township Volunteer Fire Department to keep residents and businesses safe from preventable fire hazards.”

The competitive Fiscal Year 2010 grant totals $20,045.

According to FEMA, the Fire Prevention & Safety Grants (FP&S) program is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program. FP&S is used to help firefighters educate the public about fire prevention and related hazards.
