WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has approved Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits for Ohio manufacturing workers in Shelby who were laid off from ArcelorMittal Tubular Products.

"Losing a job can devastate families and affect whole communities," Brown said. "These funds will help ensure that these displaced workers in Richland County have the financial support and training opportunities to get a fresh start."

ArcelorMittal Tubular Products laid off more than 100 workers when an upstream supplier shipped production-and jobs-overseas.  Workers who were involved in activities related to the production and distribution of mechanical steel tubing qualify for TAA benefits.

The TAA program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. The program extends benefits including training for employment in another job or career, income support, job search allowances, and relocation allowances. Qualified workers may quickly return to employment through a combination of these services.
