WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the City of Springfield Fire Rescue Division was awarded $19,048 for Fire Prevention through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) program. FP&S is an initiative of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

“Firefighters and first responders keep our communities safe in times of crisis,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure Springfield’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders protect the public and themselves. Projects funded through FP&S’ Fire Prevention category include general education/awareness; code enforcement/awareness; fire and arson investigation; and national, state or regional programs and studies. More information about the AFG program can be found here.
