WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $245,090 to Clark State Community College in Springfield for the first year of a five-year TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program grant. The SSS program is designed to increase retention and graduation rates of low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students.

“Education is the key to providing all Ohioans the opportunity for success,” Brown said. “But there are many students that could benefit from additional academic tutoring and help navigating financial aid and scholarships. This funding will help ensure that all students have access to the supportive services they need to succeed in college.”

Clark State Community College will use this funding to create individualized academic coaching sessions, to help students make post-graduation plans through cultural events and visits to four-year institutions, and to host workshops to help single parents balance work and family life.
