Sen. Brown Announces More Than $30,000 in New Federal Resources to Train, Support, and Protect Erie and Huron County Firefighters

FY 2014 Funding Will Provide for Operations and Safety

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Norwalk Fire Department has been awarded $6,590 and the Florence Township Fire Department has been awarded $23,800 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Firefighters and first responders keep our communities safe in times of crisis,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that northern Ohio’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

The Norwalk Fire Department and the Florence Township Fire Department were awarded this funding as part of round 10 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2014 AFG program announcements.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders protect the public and themselves. Projects funded through the Operations and Safety category include training, facility upgrades and modifications, and supplies such as protective equipment.
