WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that 3 Ohio institutions have been awarded $577,512 in funds through a competitive grant program at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services aimed at expanding the training of health care professionals in Ohio.  These federal funds, made available through the newly-passed health care law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), will focus on three types of programs: Nursing Workforce Development programs; Interdisciplinary Geriatric Education and Training programs; and Centers of Excellence programs for underrepresented minority students.

"These funds will address our nation's shortage of health care professionals while generating economic activity in Ohio," Brown said. "This investment will allow central Ohio institutions to attract talented health care workers to meet our state's needs."

The funds will be used to support health professional education programs, including scholarships for disadvantaged students that commit to working in underserved areas. The list of colleges and universities that are receiving funds is below.
