WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $238,096, and the Lawrence Township Fire Department has been awarded $261,905 for Vehicle Acquisition by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Firefighters and first responders keep our communities safe in times of crisis,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that northeast Ohio’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

The North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department and the Lawrence Township Fire Department were awarded this funding as part of round 12 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2014 AFG program announcements.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders protect the public and themselves. Fire apparatus funded in the Vehicle Acquisition category include pumpers, aerials, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, and ambulances.
