WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $5,319,600 has been awarded for programs to clean up Ohio brownfields by the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Fund Grants.

"Ohio's brownfield sites can be opportunities for redevelopment and new growth," Brown said. "These funds will help support clean-up and decontamination efforts critical for the safety and economic success of communities across the state."

Cleanup grants will fund cleanup activities at brownfield sites that have been contaminated by petroleum and hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. According to the EPA, recipients of Assessment grants can use the funds to inventory, characterize, assess, conduct planning and community involvement related to brownfield sites.
