WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Canton Township Fire Department has been awarded $676,130 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Firefighters and first responders keep our communities safe in times of crisis,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that Canton Township’s skilled responders have the updated resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

The Canton Township Fire Department was awarded this funding as part of round 10 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2014 AFG program announcements.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders protect the public and themselves. The Vehicle Acquisition category provides for the purchase of vehicles such as ambulances, brush trucks, tankers, and pumpers. More information about the AFG program can be found here.
