Sen. Brown Announces Nearly $100,000 in New Federal Resources to Assist Firefighters in Alliance

Funding Will Support Fire Prevention in Mahoning and Stark Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that Alliance Fire Department has been awarded $99,750 for Fire Prevention by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) program. The FP&S program is an initiative of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

“Firefighters put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe,” Brown said. “These new federal resources will help ensure that Alliance’s skilled responders have the resources they need to safely do their jobs.”

Alliance Fire Department received this funding as part of the round three competitive Fiscal Year 2013 FP&S announcements.

The AFG’s Fire Prevention & Safety initiative helps firefighters and other first responders improve their ability to protect the public and themselves from fire and fire-related hazards. Programs funded in the Fire Prevention category include general education/awareness; code enforcement/awareness; fire and arson investigation; and national, state or regional programs and studies.
