WASHINGTON, D.C. – Guernsey County received new federal resources to improve infrastructure at the Byesville Business Park. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) awarded a grant to the Guernsey County Port Authority to improve existing road infrastructure and reconstruct a multi-rail crossing at the front of the facility. ARC estimates that 116 jobs will be retained as a result of the work, with a potential for 60 new jobs to be created.
“Economic development is on the rise in Ohio’s small towns and rural communities,” Brown said. “With the support of the Appalachian Regional Commission, these funds will help the Byesville Business Park further its economic development potential by building the infrastructure needed to support up to 60 new jobs while retaining more than 116 currently in the area.”
Funding for the project is provided through ARC’s $273,363 grant. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will serve as the administrator for the project with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) acting as the federal partner for the project. Funding originated through the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21).
