WASHINGTON, D.C. – Central State University in Greene County will receive new federal resources to improve academic quality and increase enrollment. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that $1,978,028 was awarded to Central State University to strengthen educational resources. The U.S. Department of Education funds, distributed under the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program, will be used to strengthen institutional management, fiscal stability, student services, and academic quality.

"Central State University is one of Ohio's great institutions of higher learning," said Brown. "These funds will allow CSU to continue providing high-quality education and help the school’s talented and diverse student body succeed.”

According to the Department of Education, the purpose of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program is to provide financial assistance to establish or strengthen the academic resources, management capabilities, and physical plants of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

This week, Brown will cosponsor a resolution honoring Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Week which begins Sept. 24.
