WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced today that a competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) FY 2012 State of Good Repair Project was awarded to the Portage Area Regional Transit Authority (PARTA). PARTA will receive $560,250 to purchase nine fuel efficient, light-duty paratransit vehicles that will replace those that have reached the end of their useful service life.

“Ohioans who live, work, and do business in Portage County deserve a reliable and affordable public transportation system,” Brown said. “At a time of high gas prices, this grant will provide the area with new, safe vehicles that are more environmentally friendly and economically efficient.”

Paratransit offers more flexibility than public transportation with standard routes and schedules, and is typically designed to assist seniors and people with disabilities.
