Sen. Brown Announces New Resources to Bolster Firefighter Safety in Erie County

FY 2011 Funding Will Help to Improve Preparedness and Response of Firefighters in Birmingham

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to a fire department in Erie County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Florence Township Fire Department in Birmingham has been awarded resources for vehicle acquisition by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Birmingham have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round seven of the competitive Fiscal Year 2011 AFG announcements. The Florence Township Fire Department was awarded $ 308,750 to acquire a new vehicle.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responder purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
