Sen. Brown Announces New Resources to Bolster Firefighter Safety in Hamilton County

FY 2012 Funding Will Help to Improve Preparedness and Response of Firefighters in Reading and Springdale

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to two fire departments in Hamilton County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Reading Fire Department and the Springdale Fire Department have been awarded resources for operations and safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Reading and Springdale have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round 20 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2012 AFG announcements. The Reading Fire Department was awarded $184,007 and the Springdale Fire Department was awarded $114,000.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
