WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources have been awarded to two fire departments in Huron County. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Willard Fire Department have been awarded resources for operations and safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

“Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in North Fairfield and Willard have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round 19 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2012 AFG announcements. The North Fairfield Fire Department was awarded $121,515 and the Willard Fire Department was awarded $54,511.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
