WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today applauded the hard work of Ethan Leonard and Ian Schwochow, both of Brookville, who earned their Eagle Scout rank. Brown sent official letters of congratulations to the Montgomery County residents.

“Ethan and Ian, their teachers, and family should be proud of this noteworthy accomplishment. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout means they have displayed the ambition and resolve needed to earn the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank. They exemplify the skills needed to lead in the 21st century,” Sen. Brown said.  “From one Scout to another, I am proud of their leadership, and I am confident that Ethan and Ian will enjoy great success in achieving their goals for the future.”

The Eagle Scout award is the highest ranked award a Scout can earn. Eagle Scouts must demonstrate outstanding performance of the goals of Scouting: citizenship, character, and personal fitness. A total of 56,176 Eagle Scout ranks were awarded in 2010, which is only about 5 percent of all Scouts.

Brown became an Eagle Scout in 1967. Sen. Brown received his Eagle Scout badge from U.S. Sen. John Glenn.
