WASHINGTON, D.C. —Two north-central Ohio schools were named 2011 Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education today. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) congratulated two schools in Morrow and Wyandot counties that were among the 18 Ohio schools and 300 schools nationwide to receive this award.

“I am proud that Ohio is home to 18 Blue Ribbon Schools,” Brown said. “These schools, and many others across our state, are setting a high bar for our students. A quality education is essential to ensuring the brightest possible future for Ohio students.”

The Blue Ribbon Award is meant to honor elementary, middle, and high schools that have dedicated time and energy towards significantly closing the achievement gap or have students who continually perform on very high levels.

At the invitation of Secretary Duncan, the principal and one teacher from each school will be invited to Washington, DC for the November 14th and 15th awards ceremony.  At the awards ceremony, each of the schools will receive a Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and a flag to signify its designation.
