WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met with Jefferson Awards for Public Service recipients Anita Birk and Rich Gandarillas of Columbus. Birk received recognition for starting Mommies of Miracles (MOM), an online support group for mothers whose children have developmental or other health care needs. Gandarillas received the award for his work mentoring youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

“The Jefferson Awards honor everyday people who work hard to make our state and country a better place to call home,” Brown said. “I commend Anita and Rich for their efforts to better the future of America.”

The Jefferson Awards for Public Service were cofounded by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard to honor United States citizens for their community and public service.
