L to R: Sen. Sherrod Brown, Dr. James Driscoll, Dr. Jane Little, Dr. Alan Lichtin, and Dr. Aziz Nazha

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met this week with Dr. James Driscoll, a hematologist-oncologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati. Driscoll, a member of the American Society of Hematology, was joined by Dr. Jane Little, a hematologist-oncologist at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, and Drs. Aziz Nazha and Alan Lichtin, hematologist-oncologists at the Cleveland Clinic. They attended Brown’s weekly coffee with constituents during a visit to Washington, D.C. to advocate for increased funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to help treat and cure blood disorders.

“It was an honor to meet with doctors who have dedicated their careers to ensuring the health of Ohioans,” Brown said. “Their advocacy is a reminder that we must continue to invest in medical research and funding as we work to treat, and ultimately cure, blood diseases.”

Brown continues to champion increased funding for medical research. In February, Brown worked with colleagues to introduce two bills to that would increase federal investment in medical research and innovation, to develop medications and find cures for diseases like diabetes. The Medical Innovation Act and the American Cures Act would direct additional funding to the NIH and other federally-run or federally-supported research institutions.
