Sen. Brown Meets with Franklin County Parent Teacher Association Leaders

L-R: Sue Owen, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Tandra Rutledge, Shelia Ragland

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) met with members of Ohio Parent Teacher Association (PTA), including Ohio PTA President Shelia Ragland, of Columbus, and Executive Director Sue Owen, of Hilliard. Ragland and Owen met with Brown during his weekly coffee with constituents while visiting Washington, D.C. to attend the National PTA Legislative Conference.

“It was an honor to meet with Shelia and Sue,” said Brown. “Their efforts, along with the rest of the Ohio PTA, show that when families, teachers, and Ohio communities work together, we can continue to produce the next generation of world-class leaders.”

Brown is working to support Ohio’s students and educators. In December 2015, President Obama signed into law several of Brown’s priorities as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) – legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Reauthorization Act. ESSA included Brown’s Support Making Assessments Reliable and Timely (SMART) Act – which helps eliminate outdated and duplicative tests – as well as provisions to bolster social services in community schools, and to improve accountability and transparency at charter schools.
