WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement today following Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s appointment of Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction:

“Minority Leader McConnell was right to select Senator Portman as one of the three Republican Senators for the deficit reduction committee. Rob has shown a willingness to find common ground by looking at both tax reform and spending cuts in order to reduce the deficit. It’s time to stop the bickering and put the country first to find a balanced approach to deficit reduction that addresses our top priorities: restoring the economy and putting Ohioans back to work.”
